Defining the Mobile Moment
The rise of extreme sports has created a spike in high-octane moments when brands can reach and influence the most daring of consumers. Target athletes at extreme sports events or while they’re practicing at ski slopes, skate parks, dirt bike trails, surf spots, race tracks, etc.
The Mobile Moment in Action
These days athletes can take their talents to places that aren’t a field, diamond, or court. Extreme sports unleashed a whole new generation that redefines what can be done on a bike, board or a tricked out snowmobile. And while major brands are clamoring for millennials via sponsorship, one energy drink came to Aki to tap into the moments when these young Evil Knievels are working on their craft. The result? Aki’s Extreme Sports Moments.
Aki put together a selection of custom moments to reach extreme athletes on their turf — whether they were shredding the slopes, kicking up dirt on the tracks, surfing the big one, burning rubber or just kickin’ it at the skate park. The brand targeted these moments and then, by utilizing Aki’s dynamic creative capabilities, they were able to dynamically deliver messaging by sport, location and gender for maximum relevance.
The brand also leveraged Aki’s event targeting to reach attendees at premiere events such as the X Games, U.S Open of Surfing and the Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest… okay, they passed on the hot dog contest, but it was an option.
Aki provided the brand with a comprehensive breakdown of which moments resonated. Insights such as which flavors, messaging and imagery worked best by moment, location and gender allowed for real-time optimization in order to get the most out of their advertising budget. The brand then extended their marketing efforts across a wider array of extreme sports.
Did you know?
There are over 50+ activities recognized as extreme sports and the list continues to grow as athletes push the boundaries of what is sport. What’s next, Xpogo? (Yes, extreme pogo stick competitions are a thing–see Pogopalooza), Volcano Boarding (Seriously, it’s snowboarding on an active volcano.), and Limbo Skating (roller skating under cars!)
